CIRAD is the French agricultural research and cooperation organization working for the sustainable development of tropical and Mediterranean regions.
CIRAD (the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development) works with its partners to build knowledge and solutions, and invent resilient agricultural systems for a more sustainable and inclusive world. It mobilizes science, innovation and training to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Its expertise supports all stakeholders, from producers to public decision-makers, to promote the protection of biodiversity, agro-ecological transitions, the sustainability of food systems, health (of plants, animals and ecosystems), the sustainable development of rural areas and their resilience to climate change.
CIRAD was created in 1984 as a public establishment (EPIC), following the merger of French tropical agronomy research organizations, and is jointly supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. As such, it supports French scientific diplomacy operations.
